Hussein Refki Pasha Ahmed Hafez Mohammed Hafez (Arabic: حسين رفقي باشا ‎; 1876–1950) was an Egyptian military general and political figure.

Career

Hussein Refki Pasha served as Egypt's Minister of War and Marine from December 1937 to April 1938, during the early reign of King Farouk I of Egypt.[1] He served previously in the royal court as Chief Aide-de-Camp to King Fuad I of Egypt, commanding the King's Maison Militaire (military household) and overseeing the royal guard, palace infantry corps, palace cavalry corps, and other special military units.[2] A street is named for Hussein Refki Pasha in the Sarayat El-Quba neighborhood of Heliopolis, Cairo.[3]

Family

Hussein Refki Pasha is a member of the Hafez family: an aristocratic, ethnically Turkish clan with a tradition of serving in the Egyptian and Ottoman armies. Hussein Refki Pasha's father, Ahmed Hafez Pasha, was a senior officer in the Egyptian military. Hussein Refki Pasha is related to the Alawiyya Dynasty of Egypt through his mother, who is directly descended from Muhammad Ali Pasha of Egypt.

Hussein Refki Pasha's only child, Hafez Refky, was a prominent Egyptian judge and Vice-President of Egypt's High Court.
